So far this week has centered around sleep and being academically productive because I got neither of those accomplished this weekend in Chicago on the PRSSA trip.
While in Chicago I had the opportunity to tour the United Center, visit the Bulls locker room, and speak with the corporate and promotional public relations specialists. After a chilly walk back to the bus in windy conditions I then got to visit the WBEZ radio station where I got a tour and was able to talk to their political beat reporter and head of membership about my favorite show “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me” among other things.
On Monday night, I had the honor to attend a very interesting event where members of the Lacks family who were featured in Rebecca Skloot’s book The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. At the discussion based event, I was able to gain a unique insight into how the family feels about the use of Henrietta’s cells without her consent and how the family is still a part of the Henrietta Lacks Foundation.
