Political Fan Girl

Hello world! My name is Annika Grassl and I am the newest blogger at Drake University.

I have been very fortunate to make connections here in Des Moines. Upon return from my summer internship with the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) committee I was contacted by the Harkin Institute for Public Policy and Citizen Engagement here at Drake. I spent Saturday afternoon serving ice cream and making connections with former Harkin staffers who attended an event here on campus. The event was held by the Harkin Institute to show off the archives where Senator Harkin’s papers will be held in addition to the Institute.

On Sunday I attended the 37th anual Harkin Steak Fry where Hillary and bill Clinton were the main speakers. In addition to Congressman Bruce Braley who is running to replace Senator Harkin in January. I would like to give a big thank you to my friend Kelly Marble for these fabulous photos of these phenomenal speakers.

Bill Clinton is an amazing speaker who truly draws his audience into his words:

It is important to note that, in the words of emcee of the event, behind every great politician is a great spoke.
